EMPOWERED EDGE / THE FLAGSHIP PLATFORM

The learning is rich.
The infrastructure is local.

A learning library, guided paths, interactive activities, and teacher tools—served from a nearby host to the devices on its local network. That’s EmpowerEd Edge.

INSIDE EMPOWERED EDGE

A place to follow your curiosity.

Explore a guided path, test an idea, and make something of your own. Edge turns locally stored resources into a sequence of things to try and understand.

YOUR NEXT DISCOVERY

A little curiosity.
A world to explore.

Choose a path. Make something. See what happens.

Make a prediction. Try it. Explain what you notice.

THE DESIGN CHOICE

Put the essentials
within reach.

In the cloud, every interaction depends on reaching a remote service. With Edge, the core learning experience is served nearby.

Content and required media are prepared on the host. Learners connect to its configured local network and open the platform in a browser. Teachers manage the library and learning activity on that Edge.

This changes the dependency: the classroom needs its local setup to work, rather than a continuous connection to the wider internet. The host and learner devices still need electricity.

HOW IT WORKS

The learning is connected.
The foundation is local.

Explore the learning experience, the host that serves it, and the network that brings it to nearby devices.

Implemented in the local platform

A browser becomes a place to learn.

Guided paths connect a question to an investigation, a project, and a reflection. Teachers can assign that next step and review the learner’s response.

THE LEARNING LAYER

Tools for the learner.
Agency for the teacher.

The local platform includes practical workflows on both sides of the classroom.

Guided learning paths

Move through a sequence of goals, investigations, checks, and reflections. The current content spans mathematics, reading, science, digital judgement, and creative skills.

Active exploration

Work with visual models, practise with feedback, and make a project. Original activities sit alongside attributed, licensed learning resources.

Teacher assignments

Create a local learner profile, assign a path or resource, set a due date, and review submitted explanations with feedback.

A local record of progress

Learner assignments and course progress stay on their Edge. Workshop drafts can also be saved in the browser or downloaded, depending on the activity.

A managed resource library

Find resources with local search and organize useful material for the setting. Teacher tools support adding and managing resources.

Attribution built into the learning

Source records preserve where third-party content comes from, how it is licensed, and what EmpowerEd adds around it.

THE HARDWARE ROADMAP

A smaller footprint.
A bigger design challenge.

Our compact Edge concept brings compute, storage, networking, and power into a practical local setup. The important question is whether the whole system works reliably in the place it will be used.

We’re working toward validation on target hardware, including Raspberry Pi configurations. Battery and solar options need measured testing for load, compatibility, charging, and operating conditions.

How we move toward a pilot

Compute

Runs the local platform and serves nearby devices.

Storage

Holds the content, application, and local records.

Network

Connects the host and learner devices locally.

Power

Keeps the complete setup operating; resilience needs testing.

LOCAL AI / RESEARCH DIRECTION

A useful learning companion
has to earn its place.

We’re interested in support that helps a learner think through an idea, ask a better question, and keep going.

The current demo tutor uses prepared responses. Running a language model locally is a future research direction, with questions around hardware limits, educational quality, safe guidance, and the role of the teacher.

That distinction matters: the platform’s offline learning and teacher tools do not depend on an AI model being available.

PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

Understand the setup.

What does “offline” mean here?

After installation and content preparation, the core platform works without outside internet. Learners still need a connection to the host’s local network. This is a local server, not an app that automatically stays available after a device disconnects from the host.

Does Edge create its own Wi-Fi?

The application does not create a Wi-Fi network. A configured router, access point, or appropriately prepared host network connects the devices. Network setup is part of preparing a deployment.

What devices can learners use?

The learner experience is browser-based on devices connected to the local network. Browser compatibility, screen sizes, capacity, and media playback need checking on the intended devices during setup.

Can learning data move between Edges?

Assignments and learner progress belong to the specific Edge. The platform is not a global synchronized learner service. Local administrators manage their installation and its backups.

Is the system solar powered today?

Solar and battery configurations are part of the development roadmap. We do not yet claim validated field runtime or an always-on solar deployment.

Is this public website connected to a live classroom?

No. The tour is an illustrative view of the platform and the activities are public demonstrations. This site has no connection to community learner records or teacher credentials.

THE WORK AHEAD

A more equitable future
needs people who build it.

Help develop the tools, prepare the learning, and bring the next chapter of EmpowerEd into reach.
